Top 20 European banks by market cap, Q4'18

The market caps of the largest banks in Europe all declined as of 2018-end from Sept. 29, 2018, according to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Credit Suisse Group AG saw the steepest decline of 26.7% among the banks in the sample to place 14th from 13th.

French lenders BNP Paribas SA, Société Générale SA and Crédit Agricole SA saw declines of 25.1%, 24.7% and 23.8%, respectively, over the period.

U.K.-based HSBC Holdings PLC and Spain's Banco Santander SA maintained their spots on the top of the list despite their market capitalization falling 2.9% and 7.8%, respectively.

Standard Chartered PLC, which saw a 4.2% drop in the value of its market shares over the period, climbed four notches to 16th place, while Swedbank AB (publ) fell by one notch to the bottom of the list.
