Amazon.com Inc.'s India division plans to launch its own in-house beauty and personal care products brand to enter the growing cosmetics market in the country, The Economic Times' ETRetail.com reported Feb. 8, citing people with knowledge of the company's plan.
The company is in discussions with contract manufacturers to launch its own brand of skincare and makeup products, the report added.
For Amazon India, the beauty and personal care segment is a "strategically important category," the report said, citing a company spokesperson.
The report said that Amazon India and Flipkart are focusing on the high-margin cosmetics industry to offset the decline in the online apparel market.
