Wal-Mart de México SAB de CV on Jan. 8 reported that consolidated sales for December 2018 increased 5.6% year over year to 71.43 billion Mexican pesos.
The Mexican unit of U.S. retail giant Walmart Inc. said total sales in Mexico rose 5.8% to 58.79 billion pesos during the month, compared with 55.59 billion pesos in December 2017.
In Central America, Walmex recorded a 4.7% increase in total sales in December 2018 to 12.64 billion pesos, from 12.07 billion pesos in the same month a year ago. In constant currency terms, comparable store sales in the region rose 1.4% year over year.
In December 2018, the company opened 27 new stores and warehouses in Mexico, as well as 5 in Central America, including two warehouses and two discount stores in Guatemala, and one discount store in Costa Rica.
The latest sites bring Walmex's current store and warehouse count in Mexico to 2,438 and 811 in Central America. The company also operates Sam's Club and Superama sites in Mexico.
As of Jan. 7, US$1 was equivalent to 19.32 Mexican pesos.
