Italy's retail trade falls in January

Retail trade in Italy fell in terms of volume and value during January on both a monthly and an annual basis, data from the National Institute of Statistics showed.

The volume of retail trade dropped by 0.7% in January as compared to the previous month, while it was down 1.9% from the year-ago period.

Retail trade value fell 0.5% month on month and 0.8% year on year in January. The value of online sales rose by 2.4% during January compared to the prior year, while small- and large-scale distribution lost 1.2%.

For the three months ended January, the value was down 0.2% and the volume was 0.5% lower from the previous three-month period.
