Taiwan-based Pegatron Corp. has signed a letter of intent with Indonesian electronics company PT Sat Nusapersada Tbk in a bid to invest 10 trillion Indonesian rupiah to 15 trillion rupiah to assemble "chips" for Apple Inc. smartphones, Reuters reported May 28, citing Indonesia's Deputy Industry Minister, Warsito Ignatius.
Pegatron, which designs, manufactures and sells computer, communication and consumer electronic products worldwide, intends to assemble the phone chips at a factory on the island of Batam in Indonesia. The deputy minister said the factory will also manufacture components for MacBook in the long term, according to the report.
As of May 28, US$1 was equivalent to 14,376.00 Indonesian rupiah.
