Indian bank employee unions will join the country's central trade unions in observing a nationwide strike on Jan. 8 to protest against the government's economic policies, as well as banking reforms and bank mergers, Mint reported Jan. 3.
Unions such All India Bank Employees' Association and Bank Employees Federation of India asked employees to go on strike on Jan. 8. All India Bank Officers Association, Indian National Bank Employees Federation and Indian National Bank Officers Congress are also supporting the strike call.
The planned strike by bank employees would affect normal banking services at branches and ATMs, the report added.
