Indian authorities arrest former Punjab National Bank auditor in fraud case

India's Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Punjab National Bank's former internal chief auditor in connection with the US$2 billion fraud case, Press Trust of India reported.

The bureau arrested Bishnubrata Mishra, a retired internal chief auditor who was responsible for concurrent audit during the period 2011 to 2015 at the bank's Brady House branch in Mumbai. The police also questioned 13 more people and more searches were carried out.

The fraud case involves fake letters of guarantees that officials at the bank's Mumbai branch issued to companies linked to jeweler Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi. The CBI has already arrested six bank officials in connection with the case.
