As McWilliams heads to FDIC, Fifth Third names chief legal officer

Fifth Third Bancorp named Susan Zaunbrecher chief legal officer and corporate secretary, effective immediately.

The Cincinnati-based bank, parent company of Fifth Third Bank, hired Zaunbrecher as senior legal adviser at the end of April. The hire was part of Fifth Third's succession planning for Jelena McWilliams, who was under consideration to chair the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The Senate confirmed McWilliams for that role May 24.

Before joining the bank, Zaunbrecher was a partner and chair of the corporate department at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP.
