Third Avenue Management founder dies

Martin Whitman, the founder of Third Avenue Management LLC, died April 16.

He was 93. Whitman managed the Third Avenue Value Fund from 1990 to early 2012. The fund outperformed the S&P 500 during that time, and he was named Morningstar's mutual fund manager of the year in 1990, according to Bloomberg.
