A development project in the city of Xian in Shaanxi Province, China, is being investigated by the local housing authority after reports surfaced that some local government officials were involved in rigging the sales lottery for the project, the South China Morning Post reported.
A leaked document bearing the names of more than 50 potential buyers connected with housing, planning, construction and land bureaus officials went viral on social media, according to the May 30 report, which cited a confirmation from Chang'an district's anti-graft bureau in Xian.
The watchdog said it is still investigating the number of officials involved and other specifics.
Avenue One's developer, Xian Tianlei Property Co., a joint venture between Sunac China Holdings Ltd. and a local property developer, denied the allegations and said it reserves its right to take legal actions against the accusations. The developer said in a statement cited by the publication that the lottery was held April 29 and streamed live online with a public notary official present.
All 724 flats at Avenue One were sold during the event, SCMP reported.
