Cheniere Energy Inc. signed a multiyear sales deal with the trading arm of the Austrian utility OMV AG, adding to the U.S. LNG exporter's growing list of European buyers, Reuters reported Dec. 6, citing information from "two industry sources."
The deal allows OMV to grow in liquid gas markets in northwest Europe and use its existing LNG infrastructure capacity such as the GATE LNG import terminal in the Netherlands, according to the report. The LNG import terminals in the region have become underused as global LNG supplies shift to Asian markets, Reuters reported.
Details such as sale price, contract term and number of cargoes were not disclosed. Cheniere has signed LNG sales deals with European countries such as Poland, Lithuania and Spain.
