Idea Cellular profit holds mostly steady YOY in fiscal Q3

Vodafone Idea Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2015, was 2.03 Indian rupees per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 2.18 rupees per share.

In the prior-year period, the per-share result was a profit of 2.02 rupees.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 7.32 billion rupees, compared with 7.32 billion rupees in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin fell to 7.1% from 9.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue grew 12.4% year over year to 90.01 billion rupees from 80.09 billion rupees, and total operating expenses rose 11.2% from the prior-year period to 75.04 billion rupees from 67.47 billion rupees.

Reported net income totaled 7.64 billion rupees, or 2.12 rupees per share, compared to 7.67 billion rupees, or 2.12 rupees per share, in the year-earlier period.

As of Jan. 21, US$1 was equivalent to 67.91 Indian rupees.
