Genesis Energy launches open season for new Powder River Basin gathering line

Genesis Energy LP commenced a binding open season soliciting long-term contracts for a new gathering system that would connect crude oil production to its Powder River Basin pipeline.

The new gathering system is underpinned by a 10-year commitment from an undisclosed Powder River Basin operator, which agreed to dedicate about 150,000 acres to the gathering system and the Powder River Basin pipeline, according to a Nov. 27 news release. The operator also extended the term of its existing contracts, which also has a 10-year, 150,000-acre dedication.

"Our proposed gathering system will enhance our connectivity directly to well pads, thus eliminating the need for trucking and provide a seamless wellhead to market pipeline solution," said Grant Sims, CEO of Genesis.

The 140-mile Powder River Basin pipeline in Wyoming gives producers in the area access to markets such as refineries in Guernsey, Wyo., and the west, east and Gulf Coast markets through the Pronghorn Rail loading terminal, which is connected to the Union Pacific and BNSF railroads.

The open season is scheduled to close on Dec. 22. Genesis Energy is a midstream energy partnership based in Houston, with operations mostly in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Wyoming and the Gulf of Mexico.
