Kazakh regulator denies rumors of local lenders' financial stability problems

The National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan denied suggestions, circulated among users of the WhatsApp messenger service, that some local lenders are having financial problems.

The circulated messages reportedly cited the regulator's report on its activities in 2017 as a source of the information. Without naming the affected lenders, the central bank said May 31 that the messages are inaccurate and that the report contains only data about its own operations, as well as the country's macroeconomic conditions.

The regulator also said it approached local law enforcement agencies with a request to identify the originators of the information.
