Intuitive begins direct operations in India

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. has started direct operations in India after doing business in the country for seven years through a distributor.

Under an agreement more than 60 former employees of the distributor, Vattikuti Technologies Pvt. Ltd., became a part of Intuitive India's business. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The robotic-assisted surgical equipment maker also appointed Mandeep Kumar as general manager of the Indian unit. He was earlier chief commercial officer for GE Healthcare Ltd.'s India and South Asia operations.

The California-based medical device maker's Indian headquarters will be based out of Bengaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka.
