ANZ gets approval for securities biz in Japan

Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. obtained approval from Japan's Financial Services Agency to run a securities business in the country.

The license will allow the bank to sell Australian, New Zealand and Asian bonds, as well as structured notes, repurchase agreements and other securities products to Japanese investors, according to a May 31 release.

ANZ Securities (Japan) Ltd. will commence operations upon approval of its membership with the Japan Securities Dealers Association, with Yuichiro Imaizumi taking on the CEO role.

ANZ is the only Australian lender with a securities license in Japan, which enables it to further boost its institutional business in the country.
