Facebook accuses BlackBerry of patent infringement

Facebook Inc. has filed a patent-infringement complaint against BlackBerry Ltd. and BlackBerry Corp.

In a Sept. 4 filing with the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, the social networking giant has accused BlackBerry of stealing its voice messaging technology, and its technology for personalized multimedia services using a mobile service platform, among other patented processes.

Facebook is seeking unspecified damages for infringement of six patents, and demanded a trial by jury.

The complaint comes after BlackBerry sued Facebook, along with its WhatsApp Inc. and Instagram Inc. units, for patent infringement in March. The Canadian company claimed that Facebook and its units copied Blackberry Messenger's technology and features.
