Constellation completes 1.8-MW solar facility in Georgia

Constellation NewEnergy Inc. completed a 1.8-MW solar facility in Jakin, Ga., that will sell electricity and environmental attributes to Georgia Power Co. under a 30-year contract.

The facility hosts 5,305 photovoltaic solar panels on a 360-acre, family-owned cattle farm and will provide lease payments to the Hunter family. The project is part of the Southern Co. subsidiary's advanced solar initiative. United Renewable Energy LLC provided engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.

Constellation NewEnergy is part of Constellation, the competitive energy supply business of Exelon Corp.

With the completion of the Jakin solar array, Constellation now owns 17.8 MW of solar projects in Georgia.
