Berjaya Food fiscal Q1 profit climbs 15.5% YOY

Berjaya Food Bhd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal first quarter ended July 31 was 1 Malaysian sen per share, an increase of 9.9% from 1 sen per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 4.7 million ringgits, an increase of 15.5% from 4.1 million ringgits in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin rose to 11.8% from 11.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue increased 8.5% on an annual basis to 39.6 million ringgits from 36.5 million ringgits, and total operating expenses increased 15.5% from the prior-year period to 38.6 million ringgits from 33.5 million ringgits.

Reported net income increased 15.1% on an annual basis to 6.0 million ringgits, or 2 sen per share, from 5.2 million ringgits, or 2 sen per share.

As of Sept. 15, US$1 was equivalent to 3.23 ringgits.
