Barrick Gold confirms government-ordered restrictions at Veladero mine

Barrick Gold Corp. confirmed that the government of San Juan province in Argentina temporarily restricted the addition of cyanide to its Veladero gold mine's heap leach facility.

According to previous reports, the province ordered Barrick to halt some operations at Veladero after a pipe carrying gold and silver solution ruptured on the night of March 28.

The operations will remain suspended until the remedial works are verified, according to a March 30 release.

"The incident did not pose any threat to the health of employees, communities, or the environment," Barrick noted, adding that the suspension will not affect the mine's production guidance for 2017.
