The seasonally adjusted volume of retail sales in the eurozone slipped by 0.1% in January compared to a revised 1.0% decline in December 2017, Eurostat data showed.
The bloc's calendar-adjusted retail sales grew by 2.3% year over year in January.
The monthly drop is attributed to a 0.3% decline in nonfood products and a 0.2% contraction for food, drinks and tobacco. Automotive fuel, however, rose 0.1%.
Meanwhile, nonfood products jumped 3.8%. Food, drinks and tobacco rose 0.8% and automotive fuel increased 0.2% year over year.
