Report: Russia to provide limited oil supplies to Belarus amid stalled talks

Belarusian state-run oil company Belneftekhim Concern GP is finalizing a deal with a Russian oil company for limited oil supplies, the Associated Press reported Jan. 4, citing a company statement.

Russia reportedly stopped supplying oil to Belarus after Dec. 31, 2019, after the countries failed to renegotiate oil prices for 2020 as talks to strengthen economic ties stalled.

The deal is expected to ensure the continuous operation of Belarus' refineries this month, the report cited Belneftekhim as saying. Russian pipeline operator Public Joint Stock Co. Transneft confirmed it would transfer 133,000 tons of oil to Belarus, the report said.

Belneftekhim said the oil would come at a discounted price while talks to resume regular imports continue, according to the report.
