NIPSCO, EDP Renewables sign deal for 302-MW wind farm in Indiana

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and EDP Renewables North America LLC said Oct. 24 that they signed a build and transfer agreement for the proposed 302-MW Indiana Crossroads wind farm in White County, Ind.

The project was selected through a request for proposal process that NIPSCO conducted as part of its 2018 integrated resource plan. The NiSource Inc. and EDP - Energias de Portugal SA subsidiaries are also partnering on the 102-MW Rosewater wind project, one of three projects selected out of the solicitation. The Rosewater project recently secured approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to begin construction and is expected to begin operations in 2020.

The Indiana Crossroads wind farm is expected to reach operations in 2021.

NIPSCO issued additional requests for proposals Oct. 1 for 2,600 MW, mostly solar with storage, beginning in 2023, when it plans to retire a large coal-fired plant.
