Bangladesh-based Janata Bank Ltd. posted a year-over-year decline in net profit for the year ended December 2018.
The bank's consolidated net profit attributable to equity holders fell to 180.7 million taka from 2.73 billion taka in the year-ago period. EPS slipped to 85 poisha from 14.27 taka, according to an April 29 annual report.
Net interest income rose to 7.57 billion taka from 4.11 billion taka, while investment income went down to 11.42 billion taka from 14.60 billion taka. Total operating income for the year amounted to 23.89 billion taka, down from 25.66 billion taka.
Total operating expenses slipped to 14.07 billion taka from 14.13 billion taka. The bank booked total provisions worth 8.93 billion taka, up from 7.23 billion taka a year earlier.
As of April 29, US$1 was equivalent to 84.38 Bangladeshi taka.
