Hyundai Motor US sales climb 6% YOY in August

The U.S. arm of Hyundai Motor Co. posted a 6% increase in year-over-year sales in August, with 57,542 Hyundai- and Genesis-branded vehicles sold.

The company said Sept. 4 that a total of 56,929 Hyundai-branded units were sold during the month, up 8% from the same period last year, due to strong sales of its sport utility vehicle lineup and the Tucson.

Sales of the Tucson rose 19% year over year to 11,559 units, while sales of Hyundai SUVs, which include the Santa Fe and the Kona, climbed 30% year over year to 27,678 units.

The South Korean auto manufacturer also sold 15,475 Elantra cars during the month, up 2% from August 2017.

Combined year-to-date sales of Hyundai and Genesis totaled 444,342 units compared to 454,733 last year.
