FuelCell Energy secures 20-year PPA with Campbell Soup

FuelCell Energy Inc. announced a long-term power purchase agreement with Campbell Soup Co. to supply 5 MW of power at its Bakersfield, Calif., manufacturing site.

Under the 20-year PPA, FuelCell will install two of its "SureSource 3000" fuel cells, according to a March 1 news release. The combined heat and power system will decrease heating costs and carbon emissions by generating power and heat from the same unit of natural gas fuel.

"This power purchase model, with no upfront capital expense on the part of Campbell, delivers immediate value by providing operating savings, emissions reductions and security of on-site power," FuelCell Energy President and CEO Chip Bottone said.

The project will be Campbell Soup's fourth venture with FuelCell. Upon completion, it will expand Campbell's clean energy footprint to 7.6 MW at its Bloomfield, Conn., and Bakersfield, Calif. facilities. FuelCell will also provide its engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance services.
