Australian supermarket operator Woolworths Group Ltd. said May 15 that it plans to build a distribution center in Melbourne to store and deliver fresh produce and chilled products for its supermarkets in Victoria.
The new facility is expected to create 2,400 new jobs and will replace operations at Woolworths' Mulgrave produce and recycling distribution center by late 2020.
The Mulgrave site will continue running until the fresh distribution center opens, then be revamped to support Woolworths' national distribution center in Melbourne.
The company said the new distribution center will be located with Woolworths Meat Co., its joint venture with Hilton Food Group PLC.
