Daimler AG will launch battery-powered luxury cars as planned, Reuters reported June 4, citing a company spokesman, following a report in German business daily Handelsblatt that the company is facing delays amid battery shortages and other technical problems.
The German publication had reported that Mercedes-based EQ brand is being delayed, while the EQC model will not be available in the market as planned in early 2019. The newspaper also claimed that Mercedes' S-Class will not be available before 2021.
However, the Daimler spokesman said that the plug-in hybrid version of the new S-Class will be launched according to the plan. However, the spokesman did not specify a launch date for the EQC model.
"We are on target, there are no delays," the spokesman said.
