Boeing sets up leadership team in advance of commercial jet JV with Embraer

U.S. aerospace giant Boeing Co. announced executive level appointments ahead of the close of a $4.2 billion joint venture with Embraer SA, whose shareholders approved the proposed joint venture deal Feb. 26.

Boeing appointed B. Marc Allen, president of Boeing International, as senior vice president of Boeing and president of Embraer partnership and group operations, effective April 22. Allen will remain part of Boeing's executive council.

The company also named Embraer Executive Vice President John Slattery as president and CEO of the Boeing/Embraer joint venture. Slattery is also president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

Michael Arthur, president of Boeing Europe, will replace Allen as president of Boeing International, effective April 22.

The Brazilian government approved the joint venture, involving Embraer's commercial aircraft and services operations, after legal battles in Brazil that threatened the proposed venture. Two injunctions against the deal were overturned.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2019, subject to regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
