CenturyLink to retain name, brand after Level 3 merger

CenturyLink Inc. disclosed that it will retain the CenturyLink name and brand after the closing of its acquisition of Level 3 Communications Inc.

CenturyLink and Level 3 will continue to operate as two separate companies until the closing of the deal. After the deal closes, the combined entity will be called CenturyLink. CenturyLink in October 2016 agreed to buy Level 3 in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at about $34 billion.

CenturyLink plans on disclosing its tier 1 leadership decisions between late February and mid-March. Tier 1 leadership will comprise of executives who will be direct reports to CEO Glen Post. The company will give detailed information on transition plans, proper application of the CenturyLink name and logo and other aspects of the brand rollout strategy near the closing of the transaction.
