Macquarie's Green Investment Group enters Poland with 42-MW wind farm deal

Macquarie Group Ltd.'s Green Investment Group Ltd., or GIG, marked its first investment in Poland with the acquisition of the 42-MW Kisielice onshore wind farm from Impax New Energy Holding Cooperatief W.A. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kisielice started operating in 2014 in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and features ENERCON GmbH turbines. It can generate enough renewable electricity to power 45,590 homes per year, according to an Aug. 22 news release.

Poland wants 21% of all household energy consumed to come from renewable sources by 2030. The country currently sources most of its renewable energy from onshore wind.

"Poland has significant potential for renewable energy and we are excited to have taken our first steps into this market," said Edward Northam, head of GIG Europe.

Impax New Energy Holdings is owned by NEF2, a renewable energy fund managed by Impax Asset Management Group PLC.
