Nestlé SA will soon respond to a report about the company's alleged inconsistencies in marketing its baby milk formulas, Reuters reported Feb. 2, citing a company spokesman.
The report, released by a Dutch organization called Changing Markets Foundation, reviewed infant milk products by the Swiss food company and claimed it found inconsistencies between the way Nestlé markets the items and the ingredients present in the formulas. It also said health claims by the company for ingredients like probiotics and prebiotics lacked scientific evidence. The report concluded that Nestlé "is not driven by nutritional science but instead by a sharp and prioritized focus on profit and growth at the expense of infants and their parents."
Among the products that were highlighted in the group's report, which was released Feb. 1, were Nestlé's S-26 Gold, NAN, Illuma, Nido, Gerber, Lactogen and Progress Gold, according to the news agency.
Reuters reported a Nestlé spokesman said the report raised important points, and that it will respond to the concerns and recommendations by Changing Markets in the coming days.
The report came less than a month after the French finance minister threatened to take action against several retailers who still sold baby products from dairy company Groupe Lactalis SA, which were banned following cases of food poisoning.
