French business sentiment falls in October

The French business climate weakened in October due to an unexpected deterioration in manufacturing sentiment, data from the country's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies showed.

The French business climate indicator edged down to 105 in October from 106 in September. The indicator for manufacturing fell to 99 in October from 102 in the previous month. Economists polled by Econoday expected the September reading to hold in October.

The indicators measuring retail trade, services and building construction sentiment remained unchanged.

The employment climate indicator also remained stable at 106 in October.
