Ecolab Inc. said its first-quarter normalized net income came to 66 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 81 cents per share.
EPS rose year over year from 65 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $195.8 million, a gain from $193.6 million in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin declined to 6.2% from 6.3% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed year over year to $3.16 billion from $3.10 billion, and total operating expenses increased year over year to $2.78 billion from $2.72 billion.
Reported net income grew 10.5% from the prior-year period to $253.7 million, or 86 cents per share, from $229.7 million, or 77 cents per share.
