Wyo. lawmakers reject bid to cut funding for environmental review board

Wyoming lawmakers approved continued funding for an independent environmental review board that denied a mining permit in the state, overriding an attempt to defund it.

According to the Casper Star Tribune, the Wyoming state budget passed March 10 included two more years of funding for the Environmental Quality Council.

A state House budget bill did not allocate any funding to the council in the second year of the two-year budget, but the Senate's version of the budget did. The final version sent to the governor included the funding.

The independent review board voted 4-1 against issuing a permit for Ramaco Carbon LLC's Brook mine in 2017.
