Report: Estonia, Latvia negotiating to build 1-GW offshore wind project

Estonia and Latvia are in talks to construct a 1-GW offshore wind complex in the Baltic Sea, Recharge News reported Dec. 9, citing Estonian news agency ERR.

Estonian state-owned utility Eesti Energia AS will develop the 1-GW Liivi Bay project in the Gulf of Riga, after studying the possibility of building an offshore wind facility some 10 kilometers off the island of Kinhu since 2009.

Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA has been working toward the launch of offshore wind operations in the Baltic Sea. Monika Morawiecka, the head of PGE's offshore wind business, said in an interview with S&P Global Market Intelligence that any project developed to serve Poland could also serve its immediate Baltic neighbor, Lithuania.
