FERC approves Spark Energy purchase of retail energy supplier HIKO

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved Spark Energy Inc.'s previously completed acquisition of retail energy supplier Hiko Energy LLC for undisclosed terms.

Spark HoldCo LLC on March 1 completed its acquisition of HIKO Energy. The holdco is 62% owned by TxEx Energy Investment LLC and 38% owned by Spark Energy.

However, the parties did not obtain FERC approval prior to closing the deal due to an "oversight."

HIKO Energy serves retail load in states that have adopted retail electric choice. On rare occasions, the retailer sells power at wholesale when its supplier provides more energy than is needed to serve load. (FERC docket EC18-69)
