Enel energizes 103-MW solar farm in Brazil

Enel Green Power Brasil Participações Ltda. has begun operations at the 103-MW Horizonte solar power plant in the state of Bahia, Brazil.

About 330,000 solar panels have been installed at the site, which is expected to generate 220 GWh of electricity annually. The Brazilian Chamber of Commercialisation of Electric Energy is contracted to purchase the output of the facility under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The Enel SpA subsidiary invested approximately US$110 million in the construction of the power plant. Banco do Nordeste also contributed long-term financing for the project.

"The entry into service of Horizonte marks a new milestone for the group's presence in the Brazilian solar market, where in just over eight months we added four projects for a total capacity of 807 MW," Enel Global Renewable Energies Division Head Antonio Cammisecra said in a Feb. 16 release.

The Enel Group, through its Brazilian subsidiaries Enel Green Power Brasil Participações and Enel Brasil, has a total installed renewable capacity of nearly 2,900 MW, of which 842 MW is from wind power, 819 MW is from solar photovoltaic and 1,270 MW is hydro. The company has also recently been awarded contracts for a total renewable capacity of over 1 GW in the A-4 and A-6 Brazilian tenders.
