TiVo to outsource manufacturing of boxes

TiVo Corp. will not be producing or manufacturing the TiVo boxes and will instead outsource the operation to a third party.

Speaking at a May 10 conference call, the company's President and CEO Enrique Rodriguez said TiVo will also not contract the manufacturer of these boxes directly. That will be done by the company's partners.

"We will be securing whatever volume we need for tivo.com. We'll be securing from the partner. In that sense, we're acting as a distribution channel," Rodriguez said, adding that a majority of the sales, however, will be handled directly between the partner and the distribution.

The devices will continue to carry the TiVo branding and the software.
