US FDA clears Becton Dickinson's flow cytometer system

Becton Dickinson Co. received U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance for a flow cytometer system used in residual white blood cell enumeration.

The company said the new FACSVia system comes with a leucocount reagent assay and, when used in conjunction with its Leucocount kit and Trucount tubes, provides a simple solution for identifying and counting residual white blood cells in leucoreduced blood products.

Flow cytometry is a technique in which cells suspended in a fluid flow one at a time through a focus of exciting light, which is scattered in patterns characteristic to the cells and their components.
