Trump announces plan to nominate director for agency overseeing mine reclamation

U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate a new director of the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.

Trump plans to nominate Lanny Erdos, who most recently served as chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Mineral Resources Management, where he managed and regulated the Buckeye State's coal and aggregate resources. He also managed the department's abandoned mine land and mine safety programs, according to an Oct. 22 news release from the White House.

In 31 years of state service, Erdos has also worked with various state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, according to the release.
