Leading Brands fiscal Q2 profit falls YOY

Leading Brands Inc. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended Aug. 31 came to 11 Canadian cents per share, a decrease of 6.9% from 12 cents per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was C$355,430, a decline of 8.6% from C$388,860 in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin dropped to 8.8% from 9.6% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue totaled C$4.1 million, compared with C$4.1 million in the prior-year period, and total operating expenses climbed from the prior-year period to C$3.5 million from C$3.4 million.

Reported net income came to C$419,300, or 13 cents per share, compared to C$426,930, or 13 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.
