2 Islami Bank Bangladesh directors leave

Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. said Syed Ahsanul Alam and Abdul Mabud have resigned as independent directors of the bank, two days after they were removed from their executive posts, Bangladesh-based The Daily Star reported May 26, citing Arastoo Khan, the lender's chairman.

Alam was previously the bank's vice chairman. He was removed from this executive position after Arastoo accused him of violating his oath of office by spreading propaganda about the bank. In May, Alam reportedly said in a Facebook post that he was under pressure from some quarters to resign from the post.

Meanhwile, Mabud had previously served as chairman of the bank's risk management committee.

The bank's chairman said both directors resigned on personal grounds, adding that a board meeting would be called to discuss their resignations.
