Bruker acquires spectroscopy business from Freiberg Instruments

Bruker Corp. acquired Magnettech GmbH, the electron spin resonance business of Germany's Freiberg Instruments GmbH.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Magnettech develops the MiniScope MS 5000, which is a benchtop electron paramagnetic resonance, or EPR, system. The device is used to detect, quantify and characterize certain particles, including unpaired electrons and free radicals, for scientific research and certain chemistry quality control and food analysis applications.

Billerica, Mass.-based Bruker said the acquisition adds compact micro-EPR systems, benchtop EPR systems and floor-standing research EPR systems for a variety of indications to its product line.

The company also entered a long-term EPR supply partnership deal with Freiberg Instruments in connection with the acquisition. Under the partnership, Bruker will continue to work with some of Magnettech's key partners for certain markets.

Bruker manufactures and distributes scientific instruments, and analytical and diagnostic solutions internationally.
