Amazon signs deal to enter Vietnam's e-commerce market

Amazon.com Inc. signed an e-commerce agreement with Vietnam's trade ministry to allow local businesses to join the Amazon Global Selling network, DealStreetAsia reported Jan. 16.

The deal, which reportedly marks the retailer's first e-commerce operation in the country, will grant local sellers access to Amazon's base of customers and wholesale buyers across the U.S., Japan and Europe.

According to the head of Amazon Global Selling Asia Pacific, Bernard Tay, the company was interested in the Vietnam market because of its manufacturing capacity and thriving startup ecosystem.

It was reported in March 2018 that Amazon was expected to sign an agreement with the Vietnam E-Commerce Association and launch its services in the country.
