Report: Hydrogen fluoride shipment from Japan to South Korea still pending

Japan has not yet shipped liquid hydrogen fluoride, which is used in memory chips' production, to South Korea, having previously approved exports of the material, Bloomberg News reported, citing a government official in Seoul.

Japan, however, may still ship the order, as it is within a 90-day review window, the official reportedly stated.

The delay comes as South Korea dropped Japan as a trusted trade partner following a similar move by Japan in late August. In July, Japan restricted exports of three key materials used in making semiconductors and other smartphone components to South Korea. However, it recently approved shipments of materials such as photoresists and hydrogen fluoride.

S&P Global Ratings said Sept. 18 that though neither country would emerge as a winner, South Korea stands to lose more from its monthslong trade dispute with Japan.
