BMW EV sales up 38.4% YOY to 142,617 units in 2018

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG reported Jan. 10 that global sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids rose 38.4% year over year to 142,617 units in 2018, led by 75,000 EVs sold in Europe which accounted for over 50% of units sold.

The German carmaker forecasts 500,000 BMW EVs on the roads by the end of 2019. The company expects to have five all-electric models: the BMW i3, the MINI Electric, the BMW iX3, the BMW i4 and the BMW iNEXT by 2021, and by 2025, it expects that number to grow to at least 12 models.

BMW expects to launch the new generation of its BMW X5 plug-in hybrid, the new BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid and the MINI Electric in 2019.
