MGE, WPS to jointly develop two solar projects

Madison Gas and Electric Co. and Wisconsin Public Service Corp. are seeking approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to jointly develop two solar power plants.

The two solar farms would have a combined capacity of 300 MW. MGE and WPS filed their applications along with project developers Invenergy LLC and NextEra Energy Resources LLC, according to a May 31 news release.

The 150-MW Badger Hollow solar farm will be located in Iowa County, Wis. WEC Energy Group Inc. subsidiary WPS will own 100 MW of Badger Hollow, while MGE, a subsidiary of MGE Energy Inc., will own 50 MW. The Two Creeks solar project would be in Two Rivers and Two Creeks, Wis., with WPS owning 100 MW and MGE owning 50 MW.

The total cost of both projects is expected to be approximately $390 million. If approved by the end of 2018, construction can begin by the spring of 2019 with completion expected by the end of 2020.
