Caesars Entertainment aims to cut back carbon emissions by 95%

Caesars Entertainment Corp. said June 6 that it is targeting a 95% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the company as well as its supply chain by 2050.

The Las Vegas-based casino operator said that is in line with its commitment to the Science Based Target initiative. Also known as SBTi, the initiative is a joint effort between CDP, or the Carbon Disclosure Project, World Resources Institute, the World Wide Fund for Nature, and the U.N. Global Compact. It advocates the use of scientific standards by companies in setting low-carbon goals and works to assess and approve corporate targets.

Caesars Entertainment said its SBTi-approved goal calls for the company to reduce emissions 30% by 2025 and 95% by 2050, using a base year of 2011. It also aims to get 60% of its suppliers by spend to start using science-based emissions reduction targets by 2023.

The company has a plan in the works to purchase solar energy generated in the Las Vegas desert to power its Nevada properties.

It also noted that it has cut back water use by 21% per square foot since 2008 and diverted 41% of its waste from landfills in 2017.
