Absa Group names CEO of Absa International to oversee its global expansion plans

Absa Group Ltd. appointed Cheryl Buss CEO of Absa International to spearhead its global expansion plans.

Buss, who first joined Absa in 2008, will also manage Absa Securities United Kingdom Ltd. in her new role, according to the group's statement.

The appointment comes after the group secured regulatory approval in November to set up a representative office in the U.S. — expected to be operational within the next six months, subject to further regulatory approvals.

Absa expanded into the U.K. in 2018 via its Absa Securities unit and is also aiming to set up shop in China.

The group was previously known as Barclays Africa Group Ltd. before its deconsolidation from Barclays and subsequent rebranding in 2018.
